Our overall topic is Micro Finance. During our first group discussion we quickly found common ground with the topic of financial literacy training. We are curious about how beneficiaries of micro finance institutions benefit from the training of financial literacy, such as book keeping, cash management, interest rates etc., or whether the training is more concerned with disciplination in order for the MFI to make sure that their money is being repaid.
Thursday, April 4, we went to the field to participate in a group meeting with beneficiaries of a large MFI in Uganda. The meeting took place in a less formal settlement on a hillside of Kampala. As we set out for this the field trip quite early in the process, our aim was to increase our knowledge of the topic and to pilot our questionnaire and interview guide. It was a great experience!
